Support a Deep-Water Training Environment in the National Aquatic Centre
We are gathering expressions of support and interest from organisations that may benefit from access to a controlled deep-water training environment as part of Brisbane’s future National Aquatic Centre.
This initiative is being explored as part of broader aquatic infrastructure planning and legacy discussions. Your response will help demonstrate likely demand, practical use cases, participant reach, and broader community benefit.
Why this matters
Brisbane, and Australia more broadly, currently lacks a dedicated controlled deep-water training environment integrated within a major public aquatic centre.
At present, many training and education activities rely on open-water locations, occasional boat access, or overseas travel. This can create barriers around safety, accessibility, logistics, weather, cost, and consistency.
A controlled deep-water training environment would support:
- scuba diving and free diving training and progress
- emergency services and rescue capability
- school and university education
- disability and inclusive aquatic programs
- sport, recreation and tourism
- broader aquatic industry development
We are seeking to hear from:
- scuba diving and free diving clubs
- training providers and instructors
- dive businesses and aquatic operators
- emergency services and rescue organisations
- schools, universities and education providers
- disability, inclusion and rehabilitation organisations
- sporting and aqautic peak bodies
- tourism and visitor economy organisations
- other organisations with a potential use for controlled deep-water access
